'Loser pays' rule in Idaho court system could make justice available to only those with deep pockets

The Idaho Supreme Court has launched the state’s entire court system on a new track that might be called “loser pay.” Read more in The Spokesman-Review.

Achieving Civil Justice for All: Recommendations, Next Steps, and the Role of Bar Leaders...Everyone deserves a legal process that allows them to promptly resolve disputes. To achieve this, the Conference of Chief Justices created the Civil Justice Improvements Committee to develop recommendations to guide courts as they strive to again be the trusted place all citizens know they can go to resolve their disputes. They will hold a hearing in Miami on Feb. 2, 2017 - read more here.   


  NCBP to Honor 2017 Fellows Award Winner Karol Corbin Walker...NCBP established the Fellows Award in 2005 to honor an outstanding past president of a bar association. This year's winner is Karol Corbin Walker, the first African American President of the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) and the first African American female President of the National Conference of Bar Presidents. Karol will be honored during the NCBP Midyear Meeting in Miami. Read more about her accomplishments on the NCBP website.


ABA President Hilarie Bass to fill vacancies on ABA Standing and Special Committees, Commissions and various other entities within the ABA...As President-Elect, Hilarie Bass will be making approximately 700 appointments to ABA Standing Committees, Special Committees, Commissions, and other entities and initiatives. All Association members are eligible for a Presidential appointment.  The deadline for all submissions through the online process is February 22, 2017.
